"Show Me the Money!"

FINAL CONFERENCE SCHEDULE! See below.
Baton Rouge
Sunday, April 20 - Tuesday, April 22, 2008

Dear LAM Members and Friends:

You are invited to the 2008 LAM Annual Conference in Baton Rouge, April 20-22, 2008! This year’s conference, “Show Me the Money!” will not only take advantage of professional expertise within the museum field but it will also allow us to work with our state legislators. This incredible educational and networking opportunity starts Sunday afternoon, April 20 with presentations from the National Endowment for the Arts, National Endowment for the Humanities and the institute for Museum and Library Services. This will be followed by a welcome reception, Sunday evening at the Shaw Center for the Arts.

The LAM Conference continues Monday, with the Annual Awards Lunch, featuring keynote speaker, Harold Skramstad. Dr. Skramstad served as President Emeritus of Henry Ford Museum & Greenfield Village where he served as CEO for 15 years. Prior to that, he served in several senior level positions at the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History as well as the Director of the Chicago Historical Society.

Distinguished speakers, a great selection of consecutive sessions, and the celebration of our state’s cultural wealth continues with an evening reception for attendees and legislators at the State Museum - Baton Rouge. The conference will culminate on Tuesday after Museum Day, which will be held in the Rotunda of the State Capitol!

As you can see, we have packed a significant amount of activity into our 2½ days. You will be able to explore new Baton Rouge exhibits, attend exclusive, valuable sessions, and enjoy good food, drink, and camaraderie with other folks who “speak your language.” Encourage your fellow museum staff members and board members to attend with you, so that no one misses out! Nowhere else will they receive the museum education and networking opportunities that a LAM Conference provides. Also, please begin thinking about what you or your museum would like to contribute to the Silent Auction and contact one of the Silent Auction co-chairs, Cliff Deal or Mary Kay Bertaut, by April 10th. Cliff can be reached at 225-342-4479 ext. 229 and Mary Kay can be reached at 225-975-0411.

To be assured a room at the historic downtown Hilton in Baton Rouge, make your reservation by calling and requesting a room at the Hilton Baton Rouge Capitol Center at 225-344-5866 no later than March 21, 2008. Mention that you will be attending the LAM Conference, so that you will receive your discounted rate. A block of rooms has been reserved for LAM Conference attendees for Sunday and Monday nights at $129 per night plus tax, and you have the option of a king or two double beds. A double occupancy is the same rate and the LAM office will have a list of people interested in sharing a room with a roommate.
